3 days of Samhain🎃

Welcome to the 3 days of Samhain! Over the next few days, you’ll receive ideas for rituals, spells, astrology updates, and a free gift.

I have to be honest: October is my favorite month of the year. Even before I practiced magic, October 31st just felt special to me. I now realize that it’s a day filled with turbulent energy. It’s also a time when you can unlock those deep parts of your shadow.

Today, let’s kick off the celebrations by discussing ways to set the mood. If you want Samhain to feel truly witchy, and not like the inside of HomeGoods during Halloween, there are a few things you can do.

  1. Use the elements. The reason a lot of Halloween decor can feel a little icky is because most of it is plastic and flat. Witches generally prefer to decorate using the natural elements. Add in candles, kerosene lanterns, a fire, or string lights for the fire element. Open the windows to feel the breeze, or hang a wind chime to represent air. Bring in plants to represent earth, or heavy, wood furniture pieces. And lastly, add water: my favorite way is to decorate with lots of mirrors.
  2. Cook with intention. I will be making a divination potion on Samhain (I discuss more about potions on the Patreon), but this doesn’t need to be a full-blown potion. You simply need to choose a recipe with spices that correspond to your desire. For increased prosperity during the year ahead, cook with cinnamon or basil. For a motivational kick in the butt, use hot spices.
  3. Cleanse your home and get ready to settle in for the winter. This is a time to clear out the old energy and make your living space feel safe and cozy, whatever that means to you. You need a space that’s clean and pleasing to do inner work over the next six months.
  4. Dress the part. Wearing special clothes can set a sacred tone. It doesn’t have to be a full robe or gown—unless you want to, of course! Even just a special piece of jewelry or a color-coordinated outfit can make you feel more in tune with the energies of Samhain. I’m personally an all-black kind of person during October, and I like to add some Victorian pieces. Think about the values you wish to embody this Samhain and dress for that.
  5. Play music and chants. Background music or chants can elevate your Samhain celebration. Whether you prefer drumming, chanting, or even just atmospheric sounds like rain or howling winds, the right audio can put you in the perfect mindset. There are plenty of aesthetic backgrounds on YouTube, or you can cultivate a playlist with music that embodies your vibe (for example, I love dark, slightly spooky Celtic music).

That’s all for today, folks–up next we’re talking about seeing through the veil on Samhain. Until tomorrow!

Alex

Divination is a fascinating field, but let's be real—it can also be incredibly daunting. The intricacies of tarot, astrology, and rune casting could fill entire libraries. When I first started, I felt like I was drowning in a sea of symbols, moon phases, and ethereal wisdom. I mean, seriously: how are you supposed to get a straight answer if you first have to learn an entire tarot deck? But here's the thing: divination doesn't have to be complicated. Today, I want to share with you the three...

This big solar eclipse in Libra is happening this Saturday (October 14th), and I'm going to be totally honest with you: an eclipse is a terrible time to do magic. Why's that? For starters, the energy during an eclipse is wildly unpredictable. You might find yourself amidst unexpected changes, making it difficult to find stable footing, let alone cast a spell with precision. And even if you're able to pull off a spell, the results can be... surprising. Believe me, I’ve cast a spell during an...
